A maritime casualty is an accident or damage suffered by a vessel in operation. Some examples of maritime casualties are: material damage (fire, collisions, explosion, cracks), a grounding or breakdown, loss or abandonment of the vessel, loss of crew (death or injury) and damage to the environment.
